The Cumbrae WAVE group was originally started and commissioned by the community of Cumbrae, with a view to trying to acquire a Community Asset Transfer for the old Watersports Centre, to retain it as an asset for the island.

The charity could not complete this process in the time scale required, mainly due to the difficulties in making the project financially feasible.

As a result, The Cumbrae WAVE had a community meeting / workshop on the 24th of March 2022, to update on the project and to discuss how to move forward.

As part of the initial community survey conducted in April 2021, a number of activities had been highlighted as potential opportunities for the island such as watersports, exercise classes, indoor children and youth activities etc…

So the questions we raised are:

  • Is there a demand for these activities?
  • Can we deliver them elsewhere on the island?
  • Who would run them?

Download the presentation of the project as it was showcased during the workshop here: where we started, what we have done, the conclusion of our business plan and the results of the survey conducted in April 2021.
